Pont Sous-Terre
The bridge Under-Ground is a Pont road and pedestrian on the the Rhone, located in the Canton of Geneva, in Suisse.
Localization
The bridge Under-Ground is the sixth bridge upstream of the Rhone after its exit of the Lac Léman. It is also the last road bridge located on the territory of the town of Geneva. It presents a declivity of 6% to fill the unevenness between the district of Midsummer's Day on Right Bank and that of the Junction on left bank.
History
The first crossing of the Rhone between Midsummer's Day and the Junction are carried out by the private ones in the form of a footbridge pedestrian in 1891. She is given to the State of Geneva in 1921 and exists until in 1968 when the construction of a road bridge is launched.This bridge then forms part of the general plan of circulation which aims at continuing the semi-highway Young people through the Junction via the Pont of Saint-Georges and the Rue of the Double-deckers until the Gare Cornavin. During the building work of the bridge, the excavations make it possible to update the ruins of the Prieuré of Midsummer's Day, located at the entry of the bridge on the Right Bank, and whose exact site was then unknown following its destruction in 1534.
During the construction of the bridge, one second phase of work is then envisaged, to carry out the pedestrian Trottoir in particular realized upstream, but forever. The bridge thus does not have a pavement on the side upstream but, in the place, a provisional footbridge pedestrian going back to 1976 which is coupled with the bridge.
Technical data
The apron of the bridge is formed by a beam also continues rectilinear right-hand side in Béton posed on concrete piles.If the road traffic on the bridge Under-Ground increased: 28000 with: 29000 between 1990 and 2000, it then decreased to reach less: 26000 vehicles in 2006.
