Pont Charles- of-Gaulle

The bridge Charles-of-Gaulle is a Pont crossing the the Seine with Paris, in France.

It connects XIIe district, on the level of the Rue Van-Gogh, in XIIIe district, on the Quai of Austerlitz. It acted, in 2005, of the most recent bridge of Paris.

History

The Charles-of-Gaulle bridge draws his origin from the recent development of the South-east of Paris, in the districts of Bercy and of the news library François Mitterrand. Its realization was adopted by the Council of Paris in 1986 in order to connect these districts, to discharge the Pont from Austerlitz and to put in direct correspondence the Gare de Lyon and that of Austerlitz.

The prize winner project, composed of a white steel apron resembling a wing of plane resting on discrete piles via fine steel tubes, seeks to be melted as much as possible in the landscape. Started in 1993, it was finished in 1996.
