Pont Alexandre-III

The bridge Alexandre-III is a Pont crossing the the Seine between the 7 {{E}} and the 8 {{E}} district of Paris. Classified to the historic buildings, it was offered to the France by the Tsar Alexandre III of Russia for the World Fair of Paris of 1900.

History

It was intended for to symbolize the friendship free - Russian concluded between the Tsar Alexandre III from Russia (1845 - 1894) and the President from the French Republic Sadi Carnot (1837 - 1894) and was built for the World Fair of Paris in 1900.

It is built in the axis of the esplanade of the Invalides and connects it to the Petit and Large palace also built for the World Fair.

Its construction was entrusted by it to the engineers Jean Résal and Amédée d' Alby like with the architects Cassien-Bernard and Gaston Cousin.

It is a metallic bridge of 40 Mètre S broad composed of only one arch of 107 meters including/understanding three joints, making it possible to cross the the Seine without intermediate fulcrum. Two tunnels hones some are located at its ends.

The first stone was posed by the Tsar Nicolas II of Russia in 1896 (wire of Alexandre III) and it was inaugurated in 1900 at the time of the World Fair.

On the column, Right Bank in Downstream, one can lire : “  The April 14th 1900, Emile Loubet president of the French Republic opened the World Fair and inaugurated the bridge Alexandre III  ”

It is classified with the inventory of the historic buildings in 1975.

Its buttresses side Right Bank shelter since September 2006 a Nightclub called Showcase, arranged in a hangar with unused boat. This place, opened with the general public mid-December 2006, can be used like concert hall and of the television programs are recently recorded there.

Because of its great range for a low height, the bridge Alexandre III exerts an important lateral thrust. In order to avoid the spacing of anchorings, the banks were considerably reinforced, and the four columns of the ends take part in the ballasting of the unit.
