Pongidae
In its traditional acceptance the family of the pongidés ( Pongidae ) gathered:
- the Chimpanzee S,
- the Gorilla S,
- the orang-outans.
Thereafter, this classification was abandoned and all these large monkeys anthropoïdes are classified in the Hominidae at the sides of the human being. Within the Hominides, the Orang-outan S are placed in the subfamily Ponginae which includes/understands only the kind Pongo (and Gigantopithecus disappeared today).
According to another diagram, the Gorille S are placed with the Chimpanzé S and the human ones in the Hominides, but they reintroduce the family Pongidae for the taxon paraphyletic of the orang-outans.
