Ponds of Holland
The ponds of Holland are a series of pond S of Yvelines.
Geography
Located in the department of the Yvelines (France), on the communes of the Perray-in-Yvelines and the Breviaries, they are perched, within the Forêt of Rambouillet, at an altitude of 174 meters.These ponds, six: small and large ponds of Holland, pond of Bourgneuf, pond of Corbet, pond of Will be able, pond of Saint-Hubert, are aligned according to a north-western orientation - south-east, over a five kilometers length, and are prolonged in the west by the valley of the brook of the Quentins Bridges, tributary of the Vesgre, and in the west by that of the Ru of Vaux, affluent of the Yvette. Western end, an aqueduct connects them to the “drain of the bed of the River” which leads water to the pond of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines. They are separated by dams transverse opening the passage to roads and equipped with valves making it possible to control the flow of water.
History
The name of “Holland” would be derived from Orlande, of the name of an old local castle. This whole of ponds and hydraulic works was arranged at the end of the 17th century under the control of Vauban with an aim of supplementing the water supply of the Parc of Versailles, (which also received water of the the Seine thanks to the Machine of Marly). It is managed today by the “mixed trade-union of installation and management of the ponds and drains” (SMAGER).
Nature and tourism
The ponds of Holland are an important natural site by the variety of its watery avifauna, of which some require the classification in natural reserve. They constitute a tourist attraction and leisures with many activities, bathe, fishing, excursions, etc
Fact various
The minister Robert Boulin (then Minister for Labor in exercise) was found died the October 30th 1979 with the pond of Broken, not far from the ponds of Holland. The legal information concludes with the suicide and ended in a withdrawal of case.
