Ponape
Ponape is an island located in center-is Micronesia, in the North-East of the New Guinea-News-Guinea, in the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the principal islands which constitute the Federated States of Micronesia; Palikir, the capital, is located besides there. Its surface is of 372 km ² for 49 300 inhabitants.
The island was a Japanese territory during the Second world war, but was not released by the Americans at the time of their reconquest of the Pacifique according to their tactic known as of the jump of chip . The military installations however were bombarded there on several occasions.
The island is known because a rare form of Daltonisme, the Achromatopsie (vision in nuances of gray, also called dyschromatopsie supplements ), is common there; close to a twelfth of the population is affected.
The island plays a central role in the Mythe of Cthulhu because distant of only one day of the fictitious island of R' lyeh where Cthulhu resides. Several stories of H.P. Lovecraft, August Derleth and others use this island like site or refer there. This is based on the ruins of Nan Madol which were already used in a history of a race lost by Abraham Merritt ( The Moon Pool ) in which the island was called Nan-Tauach . Certain occultists regard Nan Madol as being in relation to the lost continent of the Lémurie.
