Pomology

The pomology (of the Latin pomus = fruit and/or of Pomone, the divinity of the fruits) is a branch of the Arboriculture specialized in the study, description, the identification and the classification of the fruits.
Origin
The first important books of pomology appeared about the 18th century. They were often richly illustrated and were originating mainly in Germany and the France.The first " authors; pomologues" such as Johann Hermann Knoop (c.1700-1769) or Henri Louis Duhamel of the Heap (1700-1782) did not only describe the various varieties of fruits. They are often them same employees to find and preserve the inheritance existing of the old historical varieties then at the improvement and the creation of new varieties.
