Polycera faeroensis

Polycera faeroensis is a Opisthobranche naked, pertaining to the group Nudibranchia which includes/understands certain animals the most coloured in the seamen circle. It is in June 1899, in a deep channel between the islands Nólsoy and Eysturoy (with the Faroe Islands), that a specimen of Polycera faeroensis is observed for the first time. The Danish expert Henning Lemche, described this species in The Zoology off the Faroes in 1929.

The found Mollusc is in quite bad condition, but the shape and the size of the lingual grater show that it is indeed a new species. Later on, it proves that this species is larger (up to 45 mm length) that other close species (20 to 25 mm). It has often more than eight cephalic tentacles against four to six in her cousin, P. quadrilineata .
