Political theology

The political Théologie is a branch of the theology which was initially postulated by the bishop Méliton de Sardes and taken again later by Eusèbe de Césarée. Christ is designed like the “Master of the universe” and the “king of the nations” whose reign can cause peace and the perpetual grace.

Political theology was studied during all Middle Ages with an aim of maintaining the cordial relations between papacy and the kingdoms of Christendom. That is registered in reaction to the Césaropapisme of Constantinople and Otton Ier.

In 1570, Pie V promulgated the bubble Regnans in Excelsis against the queen Elizabeth I and authorized that it is deposited politically. However, the revolutions of XVIIIe and XIXe centuries upset the order of the things.

At the XIXe century, several catholic thinkers nourished traditional theology and spirituality of the Sacré-coeur to try to restore the “social royalty of Jesus-Christ” and to promote the “reign eucharistic of the Sacred Heart”.
