Polisario face

The Face Polisario , of the Spanish abbreviation of “Frente Popular de Liberación de Saguía el Hamra there Río de Oro” ( Liberation popular front of Saguia el Hamra and Rio de Oro ), known also under the name Frelisario at the beginning of its existence, is a political movement and armed with the the Sahara Western, supported by the Algérie and mainly made up of freedom fighters Sahraoui S.

History

It was formed the May 10th 1973 with Zouérate (Mauritania), with an aim of putting an end to the Spanish occupation of the Western Sahara. After the advertisement of the departure of the Spaniards, he was opposed to the annexation of the territory by the Morocco and Mauritania. He announced in February 1976 the creation of the “Arab République sahraouie democratic” (RASD). After having constrained Mauritania to recognize it in 1979, he was then opposed to only Morocco, by an armed struggle, until the Cessez-le-feu of 1991.

The RASD has a government in exile, whose Mohamed Abdelaziz, born in August 1947 with Marrakech, is the president. The RASD is member of the African Union, but not of the the United Nations or the Arab Ligue. She is recognized by approximately 45 States, for the majority in Africa or Latin America.

The Polisario Face is a successor of the Liberation movement of the Sahara which existed in the Années 1960, under the impulse of Mohammed Bassiri, and whose rising was crushed by the troops of Franco. After its creation in 1973, under the direction of its first chief, El-Ouali Moustapha Sayed, the Polisario Face in vain carried out a series of knacks against military objectives, that it is in the Western Sahara or on the territory of the Mauritania.

In 1975, after the departure of the Polisario Face for Tindouf (Algeria), a mission of UNO recognized its legitimacy, while the ancestor of the the International Court of Justice to $the Hague arbitrated in favor of the Auto-détermination Peuple sahraoui.

The Polisario Face signed a peace treaty with Mauritania on August 5th 1979, by which Nouakchott recognized RASD, while giving up its territorial claims. Mauritania withdrew itself, but the territory which it gave up was annexed by Morocco.

The Polisario Face always asserts this territory, even if Morocco succeeded in containing its attacks, thanks to the construction of a defensive wall, the Moroccan Mur, which includes/understands minefields, palisades and many bunkers. The Polisario Face controls in fact the part of the Western Sahara which is in the east of this line of defense, that it calls “free zone” and that the Morrocans call “buffer zone”, and which is almost uninhabited. The presence of Polisario in this zone is considered illegal by Morocco because according to the agreement on the cease-fire which was signed under the aegis of MINURSO of September 6th 1991 no military quota must circulate in this zone.

Close to Tindouf, the Polisario Face manages refugee camps sahraouis, but it had also held hundreds of Moroccan prisoners of war, some for more than twenty-five years. These prisoners were the most former prisoners of war in the world. The 17 August 2005, the last 404 prisoners of war Moroccan were slackened by the Polisario Face after international pressures carried out mainly by the the United States. The Polisario Face finds its principal supports among traditional rivals of Morocco in the Arab Monde, and near certain countries of the Tiers-monde and certain military dictatorships. On the political plan and soldier, the supports came in particular from the Algérie, the Libya (stopped support) and from Cuba, Spanish charitable organizations and movements of Guérilla in other countries, in particular the Front of Release for the Independence of Timor-Eastern the, bonds which perduré after the independence of this territory which seeks to have economic relations with Morocco.

At the beginning of the Years 1980, Libya withdrew its support for the Polisario Face, after having formed a transitory political union with Morocco. It brought time to other a support of the end of the lips for the organization sahraouie.

In 2004, the South Africa announced that she recognized officially the RASD, ten years after Nelson Mandela had engaged there after the fall of the Apartheid. The Uruguay and the Ecuador made in the same way in 2005, however the Chad withdrew its recognition of RASD on March 18th 2006, just like the Burundi on May 11th 2006, the Kampuchea on August 8th 2006, the Kenya in October 2006 and the Cape Verde the 7/31/2007. Other countries withdrew their recognition of the RASD these last years (Yugoslavia, Albania, Madagascar).

April 29th, 2007, Polisario is said ready to negotiate directly with Morocco on the conflict the opponent in the Western Sahara, according to a declaration of Mohamed Beïssat, representative of Polisario in Algiers.
