Policy of the Puy-de-Dôme
Review
Since the elections of 2005, the policy puydômoise transferred. New president de Région had been elected, Pierre-Joël Bonté (deceased on January 18th, 2006), former president of the General advice of the Puy-de-Dôme, and former mayor of Riom. The clermontois Jean-Yves Gouttebel had replaced it with the head of the General advice in March 2004.
Former president de Région, Valery Giscard d'Estaing is retity of the local political life. The same year, the death of the mayor of Chamalières, Claude Wolf, sign the disappearance of another local figure of the right-hand side.
The UMP is directed now by a close relation of Nicolas Sarkozy, Brice Hortefeux, current Secretary of State to the local government agencies. He hesitates to launch out in the race for the local elections of 2008 to Clermont-Ferrand.
The son of Valéry Giscard-to Estaing, Louis Giscard d'Estaing is the second new local line figure. He is appointed UMP, and mayor of Chamalières.
The other great figures of the policy puydômoise are Michele André, Christian Barges, mayor of Chabreloche, Michel Charasse, senator-mayor of Puy-Guillaume and former minister for the budget, Serge Godard, mayor of Clermont-Ferrand, Alain Néri, appointed second district, for the Socialist party and André Chassaigne, appointed fifth district for the Communist party.
On the right
In a stronghold acquired with the left, the department was marked by the local domination of the UDF on old the RPR. The influence of Valéry Giscard-to Estaing a long time took in withdrawal Chiraquiens, little present in Puy de Dôme. The reunification of the two parties in the years 2000 doped the influence of the right-hand side. Several towns of intermediate size are directed by UMP. It is the case of Ambert, Chamalières or Royat strongholds of the right-hand side, or of Issoire with Pierre Pascallon. In the rural areas, the line especially took its districts in Limagne and around the border with the neighbor Corrèze.The UDF - lately MODEM - is present through the former deputy clermontois Michel Fanget, federal secretary of the Centrist party.
On its side, extreme-right-hand side with the characteristic to have one of the electoral weights weakest of the country. The Front National is animated by the Faurot family. MPF is directed by Claude Jaffrès, defector of MNR.
