Policy of El Salvador

The El Salvador is a democratic republic controlled by a President of the Republic and a legislative assembly unicamérale with 84 members. The president is elected by the universal direct suffrage with absolute majority for 5 years. If no candidate reaches 50% of the voices, a second turn is organized.

The members of the assembly, called diputados (appointed), also elected by the vote for all, are in service for 3 years. There exists a Supreme Court, independent of the legal system.

The last elections, which took place on March 21st, 2004, gave victorious Elías Antonio Saca, of the party ARENA, with 58% of the ways - the most rate of the history of El El Salvador.

Executive power

  • Vice-president: Anna Vilma de Escobar
  • Government: the Council of Ministers named by the President.

Legal system

The constitution, based on the Roman law and civil, came into effect on December 23rd 1983. The judicial documents can be subjected at a Supreme court. The majority is reached at 18 years.
