Political life of Aquitaine
Created like all the other areas by the laws of decentralization of 1982 (laws " Deferre"), the area Aquitaine is directed by the President of the District council whose seat is with Bordeaux.
Directed 1986 with 1998 by the line (Jacques Chaban-Delmas, then Jacques Valade), the District council of Aquitaine has like chair since 1998 Alain Rousset (PS), re-elected in 2004, at the time of the " rose" vagueness; who saw the near total of the areas passing on the left, vis-a-vis the minister UMP Xavier Darcos and with the president of the UDF Francois Bayrou. Left majority PS-Green-PRG (the PC was eliminated with the first turn).
Regional competences are primarily: equipment and maintenance of the colleges, economic management of the lines FOR THE THIRD TIME, development assistances, support for the companies.
