Pole Provence Azure

The Pôle Azure Provence is a Communauté of French agglomeration , located in the Arrondissement of Fatty, the department of the the Alpes-Maritimes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

History

The March 31st 1993, the towns of Fatty, Mouans-Sartoux, Auribeau-on-Siagne, Pégomas, the Roquette-sur-Siagne, Valbonne and Vence are linked in order to represent with one voice the interests of the Means-Country of Provence, in particular the refusal of the project of doubling of the highway A8. The Community is called then Provence d' Azur .

The December 11th 2001, it is transformed into community of agglomeration and it is the Mayor UMP of Grasse, Jean-Pierre Leleux, which chairs it.

In January 2002, Valbonne and Vence leave the Community to go to create their own community of agglomeration with Antibes and 14 other communes of the center of the department: the the Community of agglomeration of Sophia Antipolis (CASA).

The May 16th 2003, following a dispute of homonymy with the " Gulf of the gold islands it Provence of azur" , the intercommunality is re-elected in Pôle Azure Provence. New name breaks up into:

Pole which evokes the dynamism of the unit,
Azur which evokes the Riviera and
Provence which recalls that Grasse and its area remained of Provence whereas the Comté of Nice was detached some in 1388.

Today, the Pôle Azure Provence pursues two goals: extension of its competences and the creation, in the long run of a single agglomeration including/understanding Cannes, Fatty and Antibes. But the Mayor UMP of Cannes, Bernard Brochand gave to 2007 any negotiation for such a project. Refusing to wait up to that point, the towns of Mougins, Cannet and Mandelieu-la-Napoule deposited their candidature for the Pôle Azure Provence at the beginning of the summer 2004. Causing an outcry, they were withdrawn. In the same way, the candidature of the town of Peymeinade was rejected by the Community Council, putting in minority President Leleux, favorable to widening. Once again, this one presents new communes, resulting from the highland from Fatty: Séranon, Andon, Saint-Auban, Briançonnet, Valderoure, Aiglun and Collongues with the council of agglomeration of the August 26th 2005.
