Polaris (manufacturer)

Polaris Industries is a manufacturer of Motoneige S and cross-country vehicles of the types Quad and TO ARRANGE, as well as Motocyclette S of mark Victory . Its head office is located at Medina with the Minnesota. He is a pioneer in the field of transport, being the first company to have produced motoneiges commercially, and remains one of the four manufacturers in the field, a market of 200  000 vehicles annually. Polaris is less known in Europe than in America but has approximately 25% of the company KTM, of Austria. The company is quoted on the stock exchange and has annual sales of almost 2 billion $US.

History

Several inventors worked since the invention of the car to adapt it to transport on snow. Edgar Hetteen and Allan Hetteen were partners in the company Hetteen Hoist and Derrick Shop of Reed in Minnesota, manufacturer of farm equipment, pulleys and Derrick. They join David Johnson to form the Polaris company in 1954 which will be the first to produce in series a Motoneige. They aim especially the market of the Chasse the USSR and the delivery of the mail in rural environment with this product but continue to produce agricultural equipment.

The first model is sold little. The second model, the Polaris Sno Traveler , leaves the factories in 1956
