The term of high banc (or broad band by literal translation of the Anglo-Saxon expression broadband ) refers to capacities of access to Internet higher than that of the analogical access by Modem (typical: 56 kb/s) and with the numerical access ISDN (typical 1× or 2× 64 kb/s). The announced successor of high banc is the Très High banc (or THD).
Technologies
One generally speaks about high banc on the level of the network about access (or local Boucle), i.e. on the level of the final bond between the subscriber and the network. The networks upstream (collection and transport) as for them are rather characterized by Très high banc, corresponding to the aggregate traffic several tens, hundreds or thousands of users (according to the scale considered).
Technologies of network of access
Principal technologies of connection of the customers to the networks high-flow are in particular:
-
the Fiberoptic at the subscriber (known as technique FTTH, fiber to the home ), very developed in certain countries (Japan, Korea…)
- the cable, introduced the first historically by the suppliers of TV per cable, present especially in the urban areas
- the satellite , which has an interesting constant flow in down line (reception of the data), but of the important Latence S limiting the real-time applications like the Téléphonie on IP or the Video game in network,
- DSL, asymmetrical (ADSL) or others (xDSL), technology being based on the traditional phone network, dominant in many countries of which the France
- the WiMAX, in the course of deployment in several countries, and other technologies of Local Loop Radio,
- the Wi-Fi,
- the Powerline communications, which use the Electrical communication distribution.
These techniques are able in theory to bring multiple services (images, voice, data) to high banc but, in practice, quality of service is variable. Distance geographical weakening signal (with share for the transmission by fiberoptic where the effects of the attenuation coefficient are not notable in a context of service road), the majority of technologies of access are likely to offer low flows if the customer is far away from the node of connection.
