Renaud Séchan known as Renaud is a Chanteur French born with Paris on May 11th, 1952,

Renaud is one of the most popular singers in France and one of most known in the Francophonie. In its songs, it mixes revolt and tenderness, engagement and humor to criticize the company, to pay homage or quite simply “marrer”, the whole with a very personal language where the Argot holds an important place.

He also played in some films, of which the adaptation of Germinal by Claude Berri, and more recently in Wanted .

Biography

Childhood and adolescence

Renaud was born the May 11th 1952 in the 14 {{E}} district from Paris. He has a twin brother (David), like five other brothers and sisters of which the writer Thierry Séchan.

His/her father, Olivier, originating in a Protestant family of the Cevennes, is Dutch and German professor, translator and author of detective novels. He received the Prix of the Two-Nest eggs in 1942 for the Bodies are thirsty . His/her mother, originating in a family of minors of North, is worker.

His/her paternal grandfather, Louis Séchan is a famous French hellenist, professor with the Sorbonne, author of various erudite works. His/her maternal grandfather, old minor after having left the school at the 13 years age, was initially member of the Communist party, then left it in 1937, disappointed after a voyage in Soviet Union in 1932. It joined then the French Popular party. He worked then in a Parisian factory and was active within the movement anarchist-trade unionist.

Beginnings in the music

During May 68, it takes part in the creation of the revolutionary gavroche group and recites there sketches of Guy Bedos. They are its first steps on scene. In April 1969, it stops its studies and starts to make several odd jobs (in particular bookseller). At that time, he still only sings to amuse his friends or Drague R. the songs are of him, but also of Hugues Aufray or Bob Dylan.

In 1971, it meets Patrick Dewaere and is engaged like actor with the Café of the Station (with Paris). He plays with Coluche, Miou-Miou, Romain Bouteille, Henri Guybet and, of course, Patrick Dewaere, in particular in Robin of what? of Romain Bottle.

In 1972, Renaud, disillusioned, leave Paris for Avignon. It returns from there quickly vis-a-vis the little with a future which the city in the artistic careers offers to him that it considers (literature, poetry, song, theater).

With " the Return of Gerard Lambert " , recorded fine 1981, Renaud starts to forsake his black wind-breaker, transition between " Walk in the shade " and " Morgane of you " . Become father, Renaud prefers to move away from violence. The years 1980

For Morgane of you , left in 1983, Renaud leaves to Los Angeles and is surrounded of the best American musicians such as Olivier Malnati. And this investment is not vain, Morgane of you is sold to more than one million albums in a few months. Renaud definitively broke his image: less aggressive, more ecologist, a wind-breaker as a Jean in the place of the leather jacket. It however preserves the Santiag and the red Bandana. Serge Gainsbourg produces the clip of Morgane of you . He discovers the sea, takes the broad one with his boat, Makhnovtchina and a tube comes out from it: As soon as the wind blows .

In 1981, Renaud accounts for 45% of the turnover of Polydor. But following dissensions with its recording company, it does not renew its contract after Morgane of you and leaves Polydor to go to Virgin.

The year 1985 is one year black for Renaud.

In February, the singer Valerie Lagrange proposes in Renaud to write a song for the Africa. At the time indeed, a dryness without precedent had prevailed in Ethiopia for several years, making thousands of victims. African musicians and artists of on the other side of the Atlantic as Bob Geldof had already carried out discs of solidarity but in France, nothing had been done. Valerie Lagrange sees as a Renaud ideal catalyst whom can make move the artists.

After some hesitations, Renaud accepts, writes a song on a music of Franck Langolff and joins together about thirty artist (among whom Francis Cabrel, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Jacques Higelin, Coluche, Julien Clerc, Alain Souchon…). Notwithstanding, if its life of artist is filled, it is not the case of its personal life. Ireland, North, and Belle de Mai

As grandson of minor (Oscar, inspiration of the homonymous song), Renaud, who would however have preferred a small role, cannot refuse. As in prelude to the exit of film, Renaud records beginning 1993 “ Renaud lays el' Northern ”, album of resumptions of songs Ch' Ti. During six months of Germinal turning of , Renaud could discover the folklore of people of North and, by love of these people whom he considers of a great generosity, decided to sing it. The album is worth its first to him Victoire of the music in 1994 in the category “Album of traditional music” and is sold with 300.000 specimens, although Renaud thought that it would interest only people of North. Follows in November 1994, In Belle de Mai (of the name of a very old Marseilles district), recorded in its residence. This same year 1995, Renaud records an album taking again twenty-three songs of Georges Brassens Renaud sings Brassens . Since the death of this one in 1981, much hoped that Renaud, his most obvious “heir”, returns one homage day to him (the album will be certified besides double disc of gold, that is to say 200.000 sold specimens).

But for Renaud (and especially for his recording companies), this year 1995 is also the year of all “compile them”. As having a presentiment of that it any more would not be heard so early, Polydor and Virgin, its two recording companies, leave back-to-back “ The better off Renaud 1975-1985 ”, “ The better off Renaud 1985-1995 ” and a double compilation “ The very better off Renaud ”, the unit is sold 800.000 specimens. The passage of the “Fox”

Here are a few years already that Renaud was inserted in the depression. Nostalgia of the time which passes, loss of its ideals, one long period of silence starts in 1995 and will finish only in 2002, with innumerable relapses. Renaud was always nostalgic of his childhood and fatalist as for the future ( I have the life which pricks me the eyes , Mistral Gaining ), and the loss of several close friends as Coluche affected it much. Taken in the Alcoholism, loneliness and cynicism, Renaud loses there his great love, Dominique, who leaves it in 1999 and the inspiration. It then moves in with his Thierry brother with the top of the brewery the Closerie of the Lilacs , which becomes its general headquarter.

Become the shade of itself, its some appearances show it bouffi by alcohol, the encircled eyes. In 2001, it receives a “Victoire of the music for the whole of its work”, which, in a direction, can amount considering it with the retirement. Rebirth of success

In May 2002, a new album thus appears in the vats more than ten years after the last recording of original material of the irritating singer: “ Boucan of hell ” is sold with more than two million specimens, fruit of a new media bludgeoning since “ Mistral Gaining ”. Put in music by his/her friends Lanty and Bucolo, the album is with the image of the last last years: black and without concession. The side of Johnny Hallyday, Renaud plays in the film Wanted of Brad Mirman. The year is crowned by 3 Victoires of the Music.

In 2002, it meets the young singer Romane Serda with the Closerie of the Lilacs which quickly becomes the new woman of its life. Having found the love and to be itself remarié, he finally manages to leave the Alcoolisme and to feel to reappear his heart of militant. Since 2005, it fights actively for the release of Ingrid Betancourt and organizes the February 23rd 2006, at the time of the four years of detention of the hostage, a great concert with the Zenith of Rouen joining together many personalities. Its second child, Malone, are born on July 14th, 2006.

It is on October 2nd 2006 which leave simultaneously its twelfth album entitled “ Rouge Blood ” and a version collector of this one. This album, which runs out with more than 170.000 specimens as of the first week (that is to say a total of 441.500 in 13 weeks), is seen by certain as a kind of rebirth for a Renaud that some of his fans thought of having lost for always, so much Boucan of hell was the work of another character, cynical, disillusioned, and more consensual. Criticism is mitigated on Rouge Blood .   • My gonzess : love song of a “guy” to the “wind-breaker hobnailed” with his/her girlfriend. The “gonzess” of the song will become the first woman of Renaud.
  • It is my last ball : a band of hooligan go to a ball where they cause a disorder finishing with the arrival of the police officers “with great blows of handle of pickaxe, a fracture, that dessaoule”…
  • Chanson for Pierrot : the Renaud hooligan addresses his desire to become father.
  • adventures of Gerard Lambert : a caïd in the Mobylette meets the Petit Prince (reference to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry).
  • the Return of Gerard Lambert : a modern version of the tale of the Little Red Riding Hood .
  • Baston ! : violence “it is perhaps idiot, but all is idiot”.
  • Manu : a song where Renaud comforts Manu, a friend hooligan who leaves a rupture: “a gonzess of lost, they is ten buddies who return”…. Handbook being its second first name, Renaud speaks in fact about him, his wife not being at the time his/her girlfriend was tortured between two “in love” of which one was Renaud.

Homage

  • the vultures : December 5th, 1975, a holdup with taking of hostages, in a bank of the street Pierre Charon in Paris, finishes badly for its authors. Renaud, present on the spot, will put on paper as soon as it is turned over at his place, the comments of “honest” people (“vultures”) gathering around the bodies of the robbers.
  • Whore of truck : famous homage to Coluche which found death in a road accident. This title will be even that of the album, whose small pocket is black with a framework opening on flowers. The album is dedicated to Dominique, Lolita, Marius and Romain (two wire of the humorist).
  • My song their did not rain (followed by a second opus carrying almost the same title a few years later): exercise of style in which each verse is written with the manner of the one of its fellow-members (Bernard Lavilliers, Jean-Patrick Capdevielle, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Francis Cabrel…)
  • My bar preferred : nostalgic song where Renaud evokes some large missings who inspired it (Georges Brassens, Serge Gainsbourg, Rene Fallet…).
  • P' tite bitch : Song for the girl of Bubble Ogier, Pascale, died of an overdose in the society men mediums.
  • Jonathan : homage to Johnny Clegg which fought against Apartheid in South Africa.
  • Robin : homage to Robert Doisneau.
  • Uncle : at the same time tender and critical homage of François Mitterrand.
  • Baltic : homage to the dog of François Mitterrand held out of the church during the ceremony of the funeral.
  • In the jungle : homage to the hostages of Colombia (in particular Ingrid Betancourt and Clara Rojas). Various concerts of support were set up after the exit of this song translated into several languages (in particular by Spanish Melingo in ). Renaud interprets the Spanish song in the double edition of the album Rouge Blood .
  • Elsa : homage to one of his/her friends and its larger fans who helped it at the time of his crossing of the desert, Elsa, whose big brother, Lucas, committed suicide at 20 years.
  • Leonard Song : homage to Leonard Peltier, Indian of America, which stagnates in prison since tens of years for a murder that it did not make.
