Point of Chay

The point of Chay is a headland Calcaire located at approximately 5 kilometers of La Rochelle, between the beaches of Aytré and Angoulins.

The point of Chay, known for its cliffs containing of many Fossil S, is made up of sedimentary layers Calcaire S dating from the era Jurassic superior. They were created 160 million years ago, whereas the France was submerged, by the Accrétion of Micro-organisme S on sea-beds, where they were solidified.

These layers are perfectly visible today on the cliffs which border the Littoral, and contain many fossils of marine animals (which it is interdict to collect). They highlight thick layers of white rocks alternating with layers of Sable and very friable Vase, formed during the glacial periods, and with layers containing various corals, formed during the tropical periods . ----
