Point of Almadies
The point of Almadies is a rock course of the Senegal, located at the North-West of the Presqu'île of Cape Verde. It constitutes the most Western point of the African continent (17° 32 ' of western longitude).
History
Its name originates in the word almadia , of Arab origin, by which the first navigators indicated the light boats, dug in a trunk and used by the natives who came to their meeting - to some extent from the Pirog S.
Geography
The point is protected by a barrier from rocks. These reefs with water flower are known under the name of Chaussée of Almadies. A headlight alerts the boats, but many wrecks testify to the dramas of the past.
Administration
This geographical space corresponds essentially to the territory of the commune of Ngor.
Tourism
However the sight is splendid, the pleasant climate, water are favourable with surfing, deep-sea diving and the observation of fish, and the small island of Ngor is very close.Private villas, beaches and hotels multiplied within this attractive framework. The Club the Mediterranean was installed on the end of the point and it is with the large hotel the Meridian line that the competitors of the Rallye Dakar converge the arrival day before to the Lac Pink.
