Poigny-the-Forest

Poigny-the-Forest is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.

Its inhabitants is called Pugnéens. This name comes from the Celtic word Pugneis which means “clearing in wood”.

Geography

The village is located in the middle of the Forêt of Rambouillet, with 6 kilometers in the south of the town of Rambouillet and with 13 kilometers in the east of Epernon.

History

Priory of Our-Lady-of-Moulineaux

  • a priory was founded in XIIe century and placed under the order of the monastery of Grandmont (High-Vienna). In 1317, it passes under the order of the abbey of Ouÿe (see Dourdan). In 1576, the family of the Angennes which reigns on Poigny, built there a castle. Since 1643, all the site falls in ruins. Today, one can still see the chorus of the church and the ends of the enclosing wall in edge of D107 near the rocks of Angenne.

  • the town hall-school of 1863, built according to an economic model suggested at the time by the Instruction and Minister of religion.
