Poecilia caucana

Poecilia caucana is a fresh water fish of the family of the Poeciliidae.

Origin

Poecilia caucana lives not very deep water of the Venezuela, the Panamá and the Colombia. He prefers the places where there is an abundant vegetation.

Description

Poecilia caucana measurement 3-4 cm. The female is rounder and more gross that the male. The body in entirety is of color blue-gray except for the dorsal fin which presents a yellow spot and a black spot. The male is different easily from the female by the presence of a gonopode (modified anal fin being used for the reproduction).

Parameters of water

The temperature of water in its natural habitat is between 22 and 25C and the pH between 6,5 and 7,2.

Food

Poecilia caucana nourishes plants, algae and larvae of mosquitos.
