The podometer is a device intended to count the steps of a Piéton and thus to estimate the traversed Distance.

General information

The podometer is initially an apparatus in the shape of watch which is used to count the steps when one wants to evaluate a distance. If it is adjustable, this instrument, that the operator usually carries to the belt, takes account of the longor average of the steps of the operator. To evaluate its step, it is then enough to hope its steps by crossing a distance known, several times, while going of a natural step (known like Re-heeling).

Although the precision is limited by it, this method is very useful to obtain an approximate value of a distance or to make a checking.

Today one finds also podometers in various forms: cane podometer, mp3 comprising a podometer, etc

The use of a podometer encourages the physical effort and could, by this skew, beneficial being for health.
