Pocket (clothing)

A pocket is a compartment of a VĂȘtement, a Handbag or a Backpack.

It consistue generally of part of fabric S assembled and applied to the object.

A pocket can be hidden inside the object in the seams or the lining of this one; but it can also be visible, bent outside the object.

It can be or not closed with a reduction, a button, a Zipper, etc

For the often fitted evening gowns, the pockets are generally replaced by a Handbag.

History

Historically, the pockets appear late in the Histoire of the costume.

They were replaced a long time by the girdles to which one suspended what was necessary.

At the 18th century, they go per pairs, connected by a cord fixed around the size under the Jupe.
Before the 19th century, they were independent of clothing.
