Pocatière
Pocatière is a Ville Quebec located in the regional Municipalité of county of Kamouraska in the administrative area of the Low-Saint-Laurent. Its inhabitants is the Pocatois . The mayor of the municipality is Bernard Généreux.
Main door of the Low-Saint-Laurent
Located to 130 km in the east of Quebec, Pocatière is the main door of the Low-Saint-Laurent. The agglomeration counts approximately 7000 inhabitants with the municipality close to Holy-Anne-of-the-Pocatière. A merger plan was recently rejected by the citizens.Pocatière with the characteristic, thanks to its Cégep with technical vocation (animal health, environment, specialist education, physical technology…), with the agroalimentary Institute of technology (ITA-technique in transformation of food, livestock production, horticulture production and environmental…) and with its traditional, to accommodate each year nearly 1800 pupils to the secondary levels and collegial college of all Quebec.
The city is the seat of a catholic évêché whose characteristic is that it does not bear only the name of the city (as it is the use usually) but that of Sainte Anne of Pocatière .
The area offers an interesting geological characteristic, the abrupt and isolated hills called monadnocks which is drawn up in the plain. The mountain of the College, located in the center of the city, is one of these hills and it offers on the area a sight particularly seizing.
Other attractions are in particular:
- the cycle track of Aboiteaux skirting the River the St. Lawrence, the college (built in 1829) and the Museum adjacent François-Pilot, a museum of Québécois ethnology.
- the students and old of the place generally appreciate a return to the Saint-Louis Coffee which, at their time, received excellent musical groups.
History

1670 : September 18th, François Pollet de LaCombe-Pocatière obtains by transfer of his father-in-law Nicolas Juchereau of Saint-Denis, the Seigneurie of Saint-Denis-of-Holy-Anne (detached from the Large-Handle).
- 1672 : October 29th, Marie-Anne Juchereau, widow of François Pollet, inherits the seigniory.
- 1673 : Foundation of Holy-Anne-of-the-Pocatière, one year after River-Ouelle, the oldest municipality of the area.
- 1827 : Foundation of the College of Holy-Anne-to-the-Pocatière, a traditional college, by the abbot François Painchaud, priest of the place. The classes begin in 1829.
- 1859 : The municipality is served by the railroad.
- 1859 : Foundation, by the François abbot Controls, of the school of agriculture, the first in Canada and the second in North America, 4 years after that of Lansing (Michigan).
- 1911 : Construction of the new school of agriculture.
- 1918 : Important enlargings of the college and the school of agriculture.
- 1961 : The city of Pocatière is created with same the territory of Holy-Anne-of-the-Pocatière.
- 1961 : Jean-Yves Bélanger builds his first Motor bike-Ski in the garage of CH-Eugene Bouchard.
- 1965 : Construction of the factory Motor bike-Ski. It will be repurchased by Bombardier in 1971.
- 1969: Foundation of CÉGEP of Pocatière.
- 1974 : The Bombardier factory is converted and increased for the ordering of 423 cars of the Métro of Montreal (creation of Bomber Transport).
- 1995 : Foundation of the Development center bioalimentaire of Quebec (incubating).
- 2004 : Construction of the factory-school and incubator in food transformation (increased in 2006).
Economy
The economy of the city turns around the institutions of teaching and the factory of Bombardier Transport which employs between 800 and 1200 workmen for the railway manufacture of material. The important experimental farm of the federal government was reconverted during the years 1990 in companies of the field bioalimentaire and one recently opened an incubator bioalimentaire there.
