Serravalle is one of the nine communes (or castelli ) of the République of San Marino. It is about the most populated locality country: it counted 9622 inhabitants in 2005.

The name of the commune is quoted for the first time into 962, by king Otton. The territory was regarded a long time as before station of Malatesta at the border of the Republic of Marine Saint.

The city and its grounds were attached to San Marino in 1463, during the last territorial expansion of the Republic. The agglomeration of Dogana , inside Serravalle, is at the doors of the Italy.

The commune became an important urban center with the foot of the medieval castle. The other agglomerations or hamlets of the commune are Dogana , border post with Italy, where one finds many trade, restaurants and hotels for tourists; Faciano , peaceful village; Pian di Falciano, close to the Italian border; Rovereta; Rancidello; Galazzano; Bosche, on the border, in the East; Cinque Life; It Poggio , true historical center of Serravalle; Costa.

The commune of Serravalle has many sports equipment: a great sports complex, a football stadium, a track of athletics, a swimming pool which can accommodate international competitions and a stage of baseball.

Along the border with Italy, benefitting from the regulation except European Union, of many companies are installed, forming a great zone of economic activities attracting an important labor, coming mainly from Italy.

Serravalle is sprinkled by the " torrente Ausa" , which runs out then in Italy, towards Rimini. In Serravalle, its water is joined by those of the " torrente della Valle Giurata".

Since Serravale, a road in laces leads to Borgo Maggiore, with the foot of the " Città di San Marino", crossing the agglomerations of Fiorina and Domagnano.
