Pluvio-nival Mode

The pluvio-nival mode is a hydrological mode presenting a dominant tendency of rain Régime supplemented by a nival contribution . It is characterized by:

  • one period of high waters in autumn winter, related to precipitations,
  • then a flow which is reinforced in spring at the time of the snow melt.

When the nival tendency is dominant, with two quite distinct peaks, one speaks about nivo-rain Régime. The the Mississippi has a pluvio-nival mode.
