Plover with spurs

The plover with spurs ( Vanellus spinosus ) is a wader of the family of the Charadriidae.

Description

It is a wader of size a little higher than the average with a crown, the chest, a band on the former face of the neck and the black tail; the face, the remainder of the neck and the belly are white; the wings and the back are beige; the nozzle and the legs are black.

The bird owes its name with a spur (a small claw) hidden in each one of its wings which it would use sometimes to be defended when it feels attacked.

Distribution and habitat

It niche in all the part is Mediterranean basin and in broad band sub-Saharan energy of the West Africa to the Arabia. The birds which nest in Greece or Turkey are migrating whereas the others are Sédentaire S.

Its population is in the process of reduction daN its space of northern distribution but there remains abundant dant all its African field where one can see it… and hear it because of his piercing cry, practically in all the wet areas.

He lives especially in the marshes and the not very major extents of fresh water.

Food

He nourishes insects and other small invertebrates that he picore on the ground.

Reproduction

He lays two covered eggs of yellowish tasks in a hole which he made by scraping the ground.

Protection

He is protected by the Accord on the conservation from the migrating water birds from Africa-Eurasia.
