Plougasnou

Plougasnou ( Breton Plougañou in ) is a common French located in the department of the Finistere and the area Brittany. Its inhabitants is called the plouganists . This Seaside resort is given an environmental inheritance and cultural preserved to discover apart from the most attended tourist tours.

Geography

Situation

The commune is located in the Trégor finistérien, on the north-western littoral of the department of the Finistere, close to the Coast-with Armor and its climate is oceanic. It belonged to the Trégor and the population spoke Breton, mainly the trégorrois.

Plougasnou is bordering, in the south-west of the commune Plouezoc' H, in the south of Lanmeur and the east of Saint-Jean-of-Finger. The Manche borders all the littoral of the west in the North-East. With a population of 3  393 inhabitants (1999), it is the most populated commune canton of Lanmeur, in the district of Morlaix.

Being given its proximity (sixteen kilometers since the borough), Morlaix is the town of reference. Guingamp is with 69 kilometers, Brest with 75 kilometers and Quimper with 101 kilometers.

Toponymy

The habitat is very dispersed with several villages along the coast (Térénez, Diben, Primel-Trégastel), on the heights (the borough of Plougasnou, Kérénot) or in the grounds (Kermouster) and a great number of very old hamlets.

Plougasnou (the S is dumb) means in Breton Vieux the parish of Cathnou, “ploe” (parish) and “Cathnou” (name of the founder, sometimes retranscribed Catnou, Cano or Caznou). The Breton orthography modern Plougañou is Phonétique, the Tilde on N indicating that one does not need nasaliser has it and to pronounce as in French.

History

Prehistory with the foundation

Dating from the thousand-year-old Ve front J. - C., on the commune of Plouezoc' H, the Cairn de Barnenez is the oldest proof of human presence on this littoral. This Tumulus located vis-a-vis Térénez is the most important site megalithic of the surroundings.

On the commune itself, three megaliths of the Âge of Iron (thousand-year-old Ier front J. - C.) are classified with the historic buildings:

  • the lec' H of Kermenhir or Keraminir ( lec' H is the Breton word indicating a megalith, generally a dolmen)
  • the lec' H of Kermouster
  • the Menhir of Traon-Bihan

Although some Gallo-Roman vestiges was discovered near the borough, the foundation of the village of Plougasnou undoubtedly took place only during the VIe century.

The village of Plougasnou was probably founded only with the VIe century by immigrant domnonéens fleeing the insular Brittany.

Legends

Driven out insular Brittany, Saint Mériadec unloaded in Plougasnou and tamed a wolf which terrorized the surroundings.

Saint Primel would be the founder of the village of Primel now associated with Trégastel.

Important facts

This commune is known for facts related to the Révolte of the Red Bonnets in 1675.

XXe century at our days

At the beginning of the XXe century, the Armorican Railroads exploited a line of Plouezoc' H in Primel-Trégastel. The station of Plougasnou always exists and is vis-a-vis the football stadium below the borough west coast.

    • Plougasnou is used as bases network " Var" animated by Peter Deman of the SOE which ensures of the connections with the Cornouailles.

    • the common one was decorated with the Médaille of Resistance. A monument with the memory of the members of Sao Breiz is drawn up on a small island with the broad one. It was inaugurated in 1955 and comprises 288 names of dead or missings.

Beaches

Of west in is, Plougasnou has several beaches with the quite different characteristics.

; Térénez: Vis-a-vis Carantec, Térénez has with the entry of its split of small a strike used all the year by the school veil. ; Samson saint: Beach of Sand white, ideal for the baths of sun, it has a easily accessible Parking. Directed full west, it is however sometimes very exposed with the Vent. ; Guerzit (in Breton rear Guerzhid ): Located at the end of a road without exit, moved away from the borough and having a small carpark, Guerzit is the beach best protected from the wind. Directed north-western, it is with high Marée a beach of rollers, but with low tide its warm water sand and its puddle pools between the rocks make the happiness of the Enfants and the fishing to foot. ; Primel-Trégastel: The greatest beach of the commune accommodates a crowd of tourists in summer. Since the beach it is possible to go in the Lande to an important granitic point dominating the sea of about fifty meters. ; Plougasnou-Saint-Jean: The beach of Plougasnou-Saint-Jean at the border with Saint-Jean-of-Finger is closest to the borough.

Marinas

It is projected to arrange a marina in the handle of Diben. Population in debate.

Monuments

; The oratory Notre Dame de Lorette: This oratorical dedicated to Notre Dame of Lorette, built in 1611 per Jeanne de Keredan, is of a single architecture in Europe. Until in the Fifties, the young girls who wished to marry in the year came to deposit a wick of hair there. If the wind did not carry it, they could hope for a happy union. ; The church Saint Pierre: This historic building is dedicated to Saint Pierre. ; The vault oratory of the cemetery: This Chapelle with the statute of Saint Eloi is located at the Cimetière in the east of the borough. ; The martyrdom of Kergreis: Moved today beside the oratory Notre Dame de Lorette, this Calvaire comes from Kergreis close to Kermouster. It marked there the stop of the progression of one of the epidemics of plague which devastated the Trégor in first half of the XVII {{E}} century. The raised stone is a stele of the Âge of iron.

; The Festival of the sea: This Festival is held beginning August in Diben, close to the port of Plougasnou. It is a typical Kermesse associating religious tradition and festive atmosphere. It starts at the end of the morning with a Messe, followed by a procession which is completed by the Bénédiction of the sea. The evening, a Fest-noz organized in seaside closes the festivities.

; The Art gallery of Plougasnou: In the simple beginning exposure of fabrics to the provostal house , located in the borough close to the church, this demonstration is extended today to the ceramists and sculptors. The works presented to the back of the buildings of the Tourist bureau are often produced by local or Breton artists.

  • Joseph Floc' H was a printer. It published Plougasnou, thousand years of history .

  • Fañch Marrec is a singer locally popular, member of the Goristes. He lives St Samson.
  • Yvon Valiant the is a Journaliste of national press, born in Plougasnou.
  • Nicolas Troussel is a navigator French born with Morlaix, victorious of the Solitaire of the Barber in 2006. It resides at Plougasnou.
