Plouffe
Plouffe is a film of Gilles Carle produces in 1981. The film takes again with the cinema the famous characters of the novel of Roger Lemelin appeared in 1948. “the Family Plouffe” was a first adaptation of the novel the radio in 1952. From 1953 to 1959, a televised adaptation, in the form of weekly serial, captivated a whole generation of Québécois televiewers.
Synopsis
In the years 1930 and 1940, the Plouffe family is a typical family of the town of Quebec shaken by the war and the economic crisis. We follow the various family members in their often difficult life. The father, Theophilus, former champion cycle, work in a printing works. The day before the retirement, it is a nationalist against the conscription, for which it is not question that its sons will be made kill with the war. The elder one, Napoleon, seeks an employment and perhaps a partner. Guillaume, the sportsman is obnubilated by the only baseball. That which the Plouffe mother intended for the priesthood, Ovide, is the intellectual of the family group, in love with the Opera. At forty-two years, Cécile is still unmarried and secretly in love with a bus driver married with the risks of scandal which this love implies. The mother, Joséphine, excessively pious woman and devoted, protect all her children.
