Ploubalay
Ploubalay is a common , Chef-lieu of canton of the department of the Coast-with Armor, in the area Brittany, in France.
Geography
History
Ploubalay comes from Breton “the ploe” (parish), and from saint Balay or Valay. This saint was lord of Rosmadec and was made monk with Landévennec. At the 5th century, it went to live as a recluse on the mountain of Penflour, close to Châteaulin.
Ploubalay is an old primitive parish which included formerly in addition to the current territory of Ploubalay, those of Lancieux, Trégon, Créhen, Saint-Jacut-of-the-Sea and Plessix-Balisson.
The church Saint-Pierre de Ploballeio appears since 1163 in a bubble of the pope Alexandre III who confirms the rights held by the abbey of Saint-Jacut in the church Saint-Pierre de Ploubalay (Anc. év. IV, 278). The Benedictines of Saint-Jacut declare in 1574, that their said in this parish bring back 18 mines to them 10 bushels of corn (Lemasson abbot). Ploubalay is a parish since 1439 (acts of the duke Jean V, n° 2366).
The priory cleans of Saint-Cadreuc, in Ploubalay, of the abbey of Saint-Jacut is a foundation of the bannerets of Plessis-Balisson (Lemasson abbot). In 1378, the brother Olivier Péan is prior of Saint-Cadreuc. In 1618, consents by J. Lefeuvre. In 1665, the priory Saint-Joseph de Saint-Cadreuc is worth 800 books.
The parish of Ploubalay belongs, under the Old Mode, with the diocese of Saint-Malo. The old parish of Ploubalay depended on the subdelegation and the spring of Dinan. It concerned the king at the time of the Revolution. According to Pouillé de Tours (1648), the bishop conferred the cure, after the presentation of the abbot of Marmoutiers. Ogée puts the benefit at the alternative. Ploubalay elects its first municipality at the beginning of 1790. Following a decree of the representative Carpentier, Lancieux is plain in Ploubalay from February 1st, 1794 to December 31st, 1795 approximately. The territory of the cure of Ploubalay is decreased by Trégon, set up in branch (or parish) by ordinance of March 16th, 1820.
Following names are met: Eccl. S. $petri de Ploballeio (in 1163), par. of Plabela (in 1269), Ploubala (in 1310), Plobala (about 1330), Ploubalay (in 1348), Ploeballa (in 1392), Ploubala (in 1399), Plobalai (in 1405), Ploubalay (in 1439), Pluballay (in 1444, 1551).
Note 1: July 10th, 1795, a column of 300 chouans plunders the town hall of Ploubalay and destroyed the files. April 13rd, 1796, the combat of the City-Rozé opposes 350 chouans division of Baronnais, ordered by Stévenot (known as Richard) with 400 blue (republican soldiers) of the 84e half-brigade (in garrison with Dinan) under the orders of the Lhermine captain. Under the Restoration and until 1830, Ploubalay had an ecclesiastical school.

- Tower water to 70 m height with bar at the top - red painting in lower part means that it is useful of reference mark and point entrance Western for the circuit of approach of the airport of Dinard-Pleurtuit-Saint Malo located in the vicinity.
- It is possible to go up in top of the water tower of the commune to have a sight on the surroundings. Per good weather, one sees to the Anglo-Norman Islands.
