Plouagat
Plouagat is a common , Chef-lieu of canton of the department of the Coast-with Armor, in the area Brittany, in France.
Geography
- Plouagat is located on the expressway RN 12 between Rennes and Brest. On old main road 12, Plouagat was with “semi-road” of Rennes and Brest.

the commune is to 23 km of Saint-Brieuc and to 11 km of Guingamp.
History
- the name of Plouagat (Plagad into Breton) comes from the Breton old man ploe , parish, and of the name of the Breton saint Agat or Egat. This one, détrôné thereafter by Holy Agapit, was called upon for the childbirth and the indigestions.

With the the Middle Ages, the Country of the Leff, between ground and sea, could benefit from its geographical location. On these naturally rich grounds, one developed many cereal and market-gardening cultures. In addition, the proximity of the sea was symbol of wealths of cultural exchanges and economic at the great hours of the sea traffic between the houses of France and England. In the middle of this Country of Leff, Plouagat then named Ploagat Castri Audreni, Parish of this Diocese, could benefit so well from these assets, which it was given to the Abbaye of Beauport in Paimpol in XIIIe century and became a Priory-cure. With the wire of times, one divided it into two communes, each one chief town of canton, Plouagat and Châtelaudren.

the first Municipalité was elected at the beginning of 1790 and the commune became Chef-lieu of canton on April 23rd, 1790.

With the Restoration and until 1830, the family of Quélen, owner of the castle of the City-Knight, reigned on all the department and even until Paris. One of its members, Hyacinte de Quélen was Archevêque and Pair of France. This family gave several mayors of which Amédée de Quélen (1804-1869), mayor during 40 years.

on July 23rd, 1944, an explosive device posed on the railway with Roscorgnard makes run off the line a German train and on July 26th then on August 3rd, elements of the maquis of Plésidy, in ambush with Plouagat, destroy several trucks. In reprisals, the Germans put fire at the tobacconist's shop of Plouagat. August 7th, a convoy is grapeshot by four planes allied and certain of the trucks are recovered by the group FFI of Plouagat.
