Plombières (in Francique ripuaire COp-ene-Bliiberech , in German Bleiberg ) is a common French-speaking of Belgium located in Walloon region in the Province of Liege.

It is located close to the German border and the border Dutchwoman.

She holds her name of the hamlet of Plombières (which was called until September 20th, 1919 Bleyberg).

Cockerill obtained in 1828 the concession of the mines of Plomb of Bleyberg to give an industrial complex in the long term treating lead, Zinc and Pyrite.

December 4th, 2006, Thierry Wimmer becomes at 22 years the new burgomaster of Plombières, being thus the youngest burgomaster of Belgium.

Linguistic statute

It is a common to special statute for the minority language teaching (German and Dutch: Article 3.4° of the law of July 30th, 1963), and potentially (required of a request of the town council, a royal decree and still of a law) with special statute for the use of the administrative matter languages (Article 16 of the laws of July 18th, 1966).

Three borders

The corner where the three borders meet (Belgium, Netherlands/Vaals and Germany/Aachen) is called “three borders”. There are some tourist attractions: panoramic turn with elevator (turn Baudouin), cafeteria, plain of plays, Labyrinth. It is also the point highest of the Netherlands Vaalserberg (with a monument).

A little further, in the Belgian part, a monument dedicated to Pierre Roiseux (1924-1944) voluntary of war. This monument was set up by his/her parents.

It is to be noticed that front, this place was called the Four Borders when the small country Moresnet still existed.
