Plessisville is a municipality of Canadian parish of the Quebec located in the regional Municipalité of county of the Maple and in the administrative area of the Center-of-Quebec. This one wedges the town of Plessisville

History

City creation and parish

  • July 1st 1855: The village of Plessisville and the municipality of canton of Somerset are made up during original cutting of Quebec.
  • 1857 : Somerset is divided into two municipalities of distinct canton: Somerset-North and Somerset-South
  • 1946: Somerset-south changes its name for municipality of parish of Plessisville .

Origin of the name

The name of the Paroisse was given in the honor of Monseigneur Octave Plessis, bishop of Quebec at the beginning of the 19th century.

First colonist

Jean-Baptiste Lafond, in 1835, was the first to be settled in the sector of Plessisville.
