History
City creation and parish
The reasons of the separation of the
City and the Paroisse are obscure. It would seem that the parish of Plessisville set up in Municipalité in 1855 and, the same year, the
Village of Plessisville separated from the parish Incorporer in its turn.
Poursparlers are in hand to amalgamate the parish with the town of Plessisville, but of the disagreements between the two municipalities prevent their fusion.
Origin of the name
The name of the city and the parish was given in the honor of Monseigneur Octave Plessis,
bishop of
Quebec at the beginning of the 19th century.
First colonist
Jean-Baptiste Lafond, in
1835, was the first to be settled in the sector of Plessisville.
