History of Plessis-Trévise
Located at 17 km in the east of Paris, Plessis-Trévise is the youngest commune of the the Valley-of-Marne (its hundredth birthday was celebrated on July 7th 1999). In the beginning, the hamlet consists of two separate fields: The Plessis-Saint-Antoine and Plessis the Moor. In 1776, Prince de Conti joins together the fields thus outlining the territory of what will become Plessis-Trévise, then divided between the communes of the Villiers-on-Marne, the Tail-in-Brie and the Chennevières-on-Marne.
The old word " Plessis " indicated formerly intersected branches protecting a field. As for the word " Trévise" , it refers to the town of Italy (Venezia): the marshal Mortier was named duke of Trévise and governor of Silesia by Napoleon 1st, in 1808, after the Bataille of Friedland. In 1812, the Marshal Mortar, become immensely rich, had settled with the castle of the Moor, had located on the commune of which he will become the mayor. It will be killed in 1835, boulevard of the Temple, victim of the " machine infernale" of Fieschi which aimed at the procession of Louis-Philippe. Buried with the Invalid , its heart is buried with the cemetery of the Father-Lachaise.
In 1857, the allotment of part of the grounds of the castle leads a new population to settle there, leading to the creation of a commune with whole share on July 7th 1899. Initially, a Parisian population in search of green areas contributes to the fast increase in city. As from the years 1950, the urbanization experiences a development, in particular after creation by the Abbé Pierre of the " City of Joie" , one of the first cities urgently built after its famous call of 1954.
A great number of private housing estates are built in the years 1970. Starting from 1984, the city obtains a heart and sees its population reaching its maturity around 19.000 today Plesséens.
