The Plaza Mayor of Madrid was built in 1619 by Juan Gómez de Mora, it replaces an old market. A statue of Philippe III is installed in the center, and one also discovers there Put it of Panadería, easily recognizable thanks to the frescos which decorate its frontage. The Plaza Mayor was one of the most active centers of Madrid of the 17th century. Spectacles of all kinds were held to with it: Bullfight S, judgments of the Enquiry (with its bûchers) or various public acts to which crowd assisted since the balconies which overhang it. Site impossible to circumvent for the tourists, it is the monument emblématique of Madrid, very animated for the period of Christmas and in summer, when it is invaded terraces.
