  • Sydney accommodated 3843 athletes coming from 123 countries. The accepted handicaps were the following: traumatisms of the spinal-cord, problems visual, amputation, cerebral paralysis, mental handicaps.

  • 300 world records and records paralympic were beaten with Sydney.

  • the team of intellectual Spain of basketball defective has to return its gold medal after Spanish the Paralympique Committee had realized that 10 of the 12 players of the team did not have any mental handicap. This scandal led other than the mentally handicapped persons to the paralympic Jeux of Athens in 2004. The International committee paralympic considered that it was too difficult to determine the level of handicap of the intellectual defective athletes.
