The meitnérium is a chemical element, of MT symbol and Atomic number 109. It is a synthetic element whose Demi-vie of the most stable isotope 266Mt is lower than 3,4 ms.
History
The meitnérium was synthesized for the first time the August 29th 1982 with 16:10 by a research team German directed by Peter Armbruster and Gottfried Münzenberg with the Research center on the heavy ions ( Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung , GSI) of Darmstadt. The team makes a success of that by bombarding a target of Bismuth -209 with iron-58 cores. The creation of this element showed that the techniques of nuclear Fusion could be used to make new heavy ions. The name meitnérium was suggested in honor of the physician and austro-Swedish mathematician Lise Meitner, but there was a controversy of name about elements 101 to 109; also UICPA adopted it the Unnilennium (One) like name of systematic element temporary. The controversy was solved in 1997 and the current name was adopted.
