The play of the dog and the jackal , also called “ play of the 58 holes ” is a Board game of the ancient Egypt.

This play is composed of two series of five sticks having generally heads of Chien and Chacal and a bored plate of 58 holes (where to place these sticks) divided into two zones of 29 holes.

The exact rules of this play did not reach us, but the found specimens can let think of a play of course resembling the Jeu of the Goose. It is supposed that each player had five sticks and a zone of 29 holes and that it was to move his pawns of a number of boxes defined by the chance on an imposed course containing of the special boxes (shortened, flashback, etc). A Hiéroglyphe represented the arrival and the first player to reach it gained the part.
