Goal of the play
The goal of the play is simple: to be the first to be trued of all its charts, or in any case to avoid being the last.
Unfolding
The play of Large Dalmuti is composed of 80 charts of values going from 1 to 12 which represent castes. The number of charts of each value is equal to this value, there are thus twelve 12 (Peasants), eleven 11 (Maidservants),…, three 3 (Chiefs of army), two 2 (Archpriests) and one 1 (Large Dalmuti). There are also 2 jokers which are charts of replacement. The play is more interesting from 5 to 8 players, even if one can play more. The statute of the player being also important, one determines by chance the order and the row of the players at the time of the first part. Thereafter, the first player to true his charts becomes new “Large Dalmuti”, and the player on his left, “Small Dalmuti” whereas the player on the right of Large Dalmuti is the “Large Buffoon” and the player on the right of this last are the “Small Buffoon”. The other players are merchants of more or less high statutes according to their distance of Large Dalmuti. During the phase of tax at the beginning of each part, Large Dalmuti obliges the Large Buffoon to exchange to him his 2 better charts against two charts of its choice. Small Dalmuti makes in the same way with the Small Buffoon, but with only one chart. A player who has the two jokers can cancel the taxes. If it is the Large Buffoon who has them, it can also launch a revolution, or each one takes the place of the player who is opposite for him, the Large Buffoon exchanging his with Large Dalmuti.
The statute around the table also involves a respect due to the hierarchy and more servile functions for the buffoons, like collecting the charts, distributing them, to bring drinks, etc Your statute which can change with each part, to be really unpleasant with your underlings can be very easily turned over against you after a bad hand.
Large Dalmuti always begins the part. It trues its first hand of charts by playing them per series of of the same charts value, like three 4. The worse the value of the chart is high, is the chart, the jokers having a value of 13. You must play charts as many as the series of charts which was played by the preceding player but of a lower value or you must pass. Example: Christophe has just played three 8, Pierre can play three identical charts but of a lower value like three 4 or pass.
A player is never obliged to cover the charts even if it of with the capacity, you has the right of bluffer or to preserve your charts to take the hand later. Even if you passed, you can cover the charts in a later turn. In the example preceding Pierre, passes, but Rodolphe plays three 6 and takes the hand, when it is again with the turn of Pierre of speaking, it can play its three 4 and take the hand.
When all the players pass in the same turn, the Large Buffoon collects the charts which it trues, and the player who with the hand starts again a new series. The players play until they all trued all their charts. When a player takes the hand by truing his last chart, it is the player on his left which takes the hand in its place.
End of part and winner
The first player who trues himself of all his charts becomes new Large Dalmuti for the following part, the second becomes Small Dalmuti, the following of the merchants, before the last as for him will be the Small Buffoon and the last, the new Large Buffoon. The players then change place and the large Buffoon can distribute the charts for a new part.
It is advised to sit the players according to their hierarchy, Large Dalmuti will be for example in a comfortable armchair whereas the buffoons sit on stools or a case. The parts last 15 minutes and are connected, each one hoping to become Grand Dalmuti in the place of Large Dalmuti
