History
The swell Lyons " or “National Jeu” is born at the XVIIIe century in the area of Lyon, from where its name. In 1850 this play is high with the row of sport, with the creation of the first official company: “the Jouve Field”. So the French federation of Balls was dominated a long time by the swell Lyons.During the XIXe century, the Provençale section of the BFR codifies the play called “to long” which is a binocular of the swell Lyons, and which very snuffed by the Southerners. This play requires same sporting qualities, but can be played on an irregular ground, with balls smaller than for the Lyons ball.
Rules of the game
They are the same ones as those of the Pétanque, except for the way of launching the ball, at the same time lifting and choreographic, because of the long distance.-
the '' (Jack or Stopper) must be launched of a circle traced on the ground at a distance ranging between 15 and 20 (21) meters (against 6 to 10 m for game of bowls).
-
the pointer must obligatorily leave only one foot the circle by taking a step in the direction which it wishes (generally ahead or on side).
-
it can then launch its ball, either with the two feet with ground (a foot remaining in the circle), or by being held on a leg , two feet outside the circle after having raised the foot on which it took support.
-
the gunner must also leave its circle to carry out the three jumps lawful to take its dash and to launch the ball after the last step, when it poses the foot with ground. This race of dash, of a great elegance, which is not without pointing out that of the Long jump, is essential to cross the distance to the unfavourable ball and to try to dislodge it.
The championships of France of play of Provence were created in 1946.
The invention of the Pétanque in 1910 aimed at allowing the players suffering from rheumatisms to continue to practice the play on a short ground, and by keeping the “feet tanqués” in the circle.
