A play by forum is a Jeu on Internet which is held by dialog, in general on Usenet or on a Forum Internet.
Principle
It is about a play by interposed computer, but with properly not spoken about a
Video game since video posting does not intervene little even at all (they are massively distinguished in that from the online games multi-player); it is rather about an evolution of the plays by correspondence. It is often about generally free Roleplays. The Play Role remains all the same a manner of having fun, while remaining correct in the use of the French language: the various forums which one can find request a more or less high level. More or less asking details in the description of the character whom the Net surfer wishes incarner.
There exist various types of plays:
- direct heirs to the plays by correspondence, where all is written in forums. Here, the play role (see the paragraph Roleplay ) is the constituting element, all the actions exist only in account, on the forums, one generally finds there purists of the kind or people loving to write and invent stories. Within these plays, the degree of freedom left to the player going from the permissive one who leaves a maximum of freedom to the player as long as this one respects the universe and the rules, until most strict where all is directed by Masters of play. (The Univers of Yuimen is one of, if not it, more known.)
-
partly automated plays, where the actions are managed in parallel on a site, via an graphical interface often rather basic, and the play role is written in the forum. Here still, there are those which approach more of the play by correspondence, where the site is only used to accomplish voyages in the imaginary world, to interact with the inventory and the character of the others, but where the play role is the most important element. The teams of administrators tend to direct these plays towards a preponderance of the role play, an example is the play Adept (roleplay). (Of the plays such as the kingdoms of Asturyan, where the forum evolves/moves according to the position on the chart (given on the site) of the character, do not make it possible to gain in levels, this one being determined by the aptitude for to make good RP .) and those where the play role on the forum has certainly a great importance, but where the principal body of the play resides in the automated part of the site. (Often to the turn by turn, such as reappearing Kingdoms, these plays generally present a ascencion level of the player, as well as PNJ determining for the play.)
-
the plays which make automated part the principal interest of the play, the goal being, in general, to gain levels, even if a minority of groups divert this original intention somewhat, and use this support to completely make roleplay with the height of the preceding categories. (A known example of the kind is OGame.)
One can find Forum RP adapted to various known series, mainly books (the Seigneur of the Rings, Saga Vorkosigan), data base or Manga (Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, etc), or video games (inter alia Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest) But one can find forums of plays on new stories created in particular for that. For a few months, much of RPG forums have been based over various times of Harry Potter (example: a futuristic Poudlard or on the contrary, a old Poudlard, at the time of the Petty thieves, i.e. during the years 1980).
Teams
Do not believe however that this kind of forum says RP, is anarchistic: as any forum which is respected, a team deals with setting up certain devices, because in addition to managing the Net surfers who are registered and their intrigues (if they try to put the forum in difficulty, by insulting or hackant this last), they must also build a screen, for the history in which the RPs players evolve/move. Of course, all forums RP do not propose a complete history, to make it possible to the players to have a certain freedom in the creation and the use of their characters.
These teams must also give the example, the majority of the creators of forum RP, are them even of RPistes (or Player Role even rolists), and must make watch of a certain talent. The team divides itself as in any traditional forum, of one or several administrators and regulators, but in addition to these people, there can also be Net surfers Readers, who deliver their opinion on the messages of RPistes, judging the quality and the style of the latter.
Then, all depends on the RPs Forum in themselves: just like the style of writing, the under-equipped ones of this kind of forums can change a forum to another. Thus one can find Regulator RP acting as Masters of the Play, deciding events which can emerge at the time of a series of actions (an emerging enemy, or quite simply a weather change), and other types of more or less complex teams, groups defined in advance by the administrator: race of the character, for example, or psychological direction (malicious or nice, to make simple, although in certain cases of the more ambiguous profiles are preferred).
Roleplay
In the case of the Roleplays, the importance before is very given to the Role Play (i.e. with the interpretation of the characters in a given universe) where the interactions between characters are at the base of the evolution of the history (scenario, countryside,…).
Unfolding
In general it is necessary to describe its character in a suitable forum at the time of its inscription: characteristics physical, mental, its history, etc Once the validated card, one can play his character in the various forums of play. A play on Harry Potter could for example propose the forums " Refectoire" and " Dormitory of Gryffondor". To play it is enough to deposit a message in these forums. The other players will answer then with their own character, and the history will proceed according to the actions of the players.
Example of dialog
(Very little worked and insipid…)
- Character a: " Good weather, not true? " Known as it of endeavouring to maintain the conversation. That made well a long time that he had not been exerted with this art…
- Character b: Somewhat destabilized by this so original subject, Personnage B answered precipitately: " Indeed. It's a pity that clouds come to obscure the sky… ".
- Character a: " Bah, we have to only return in the hall! " Known as it, to trust to have found such an idea.
- Character b: " Indeed… Come. " Ordered it. It did not want to be wet…
Manner of writing in " RP" comply with certain rules, this one seldom change from one forum to another, most often met here:
- the actions are generally in italic
- Ex: It looked around him, astonished that his/her colleague left
- According to the forums, the asterisks indicate the thoughts of the characters or then the actions
- Ex1: *Va to be necessary to play serré*
- Ex2: *mange most quickly possible*
- In fat is often indicated the dialogs
- Ex: Good weather, not true?
Of course, it is not a question of rules written in the marble and such or such forum can have specific rules, some will thus prefer the use of a romantic style (without much of codes if not use of the quotation marks, thoughts merging in the narration) while others will take simplistic formulas (like the use of the asterisks without subjects in the sentences).
