Plate of Atherton

The plate of Atherton is an area of the Great Dividing Range located at the Queensland in Australia.

It has a surface of approximately 32.000 km ² and an altitude varying between 600 and 900 m with the top of the sea level.

It is located inside the grounds at the west and the south-south-west of Cairns and though located in an intertropical area, it profits from its altitude from a moderate climate allowing the breeding from milch cows.

The principal river of the plate is the Barron River on which a stopping was built which makes it possible to store a water reserve for the irrigation in the Lac Tinaroo.

The area has reserves of tin and a little Or.
