Plassac is a common French, located in the department of the the Gironde and the area Aquitaine.

Geography

Commune located located at the edge of the Estuary of the Gironde, in the Blayais, to 3 km in the south of Blaye, on the secondary road 669. Rural district, Wine.

History

A Gallo-Roman establishment is attested by the discovery of vestiges of 3 Gallo-Roman villas, dating from the {{mini Ier}} with the {{mini Ve}} century S after J.C. These vestiges were found close to the current establishment of the church, not far from the the Gironde.

At the time medieval, the center of activity of the village seems to be moved towards the heights dominating the river. In particular a treasure testifies to Monnaie S mérovingiennes discovered towards 1850 with the locality Montuzet ( Mont of the Birds ).

Low Plassac, around the port, has an activity river and maritime important with the {{mini XVIIe}}, {{mini XVIIIe}} and {{mini XIXe}} century S. Of the traders and captains with the long course settles in beautiful stone residences. This river activity will regress little by little with the mini {{XXe}} century.
