Its blazon has a castle flanked by a chestnut and a pine; it has a crown above and is surrounded by the currency the city: C Placeat Deo And Hominibus (For the divine and human pleasure). The flag has two horizontal bands, violet above, green in lower part.
In 1189, Plasence was declared seat of a diocese by the pope Clément III, and one started to build a Romance cathedral, but after one added Gothic, and later plateresques elements by destroying parts of the old Romance cathedral.
The city knew many revolts at the 15th century. In Plasence took place the marriage of Jeanne de Castille known as Beltraneja (1462-1530), and of Alphonse V of Portugal which aspired to the throne Castille, by which Plasence had to pay a fine with the crown after Jeanne had been demolished with the Bataille of Toro (1476).
