Planisphere
A planisphere is a plane representation of the whole of the Surface of a Sphère in the form of two hemispheres, in particular in Cartographie (geographical). The term of Mappemonde is, in its strict direction, equivalent, but is often used wrongfully for Globe (or planet gear).
The planispheres do not represent only one physical surface but are often in the center of geostrategic stakes . They represent the vision of the author. They are thus not that a technique but also a policy and can be means of Propagande. To finish, the planispheres are also a representation which can belong to the field of the imaginary that is literature or of another Article.
History
The cartography experienced an extraordinary development for the period of the Grandes discoveries, as of the 15th century. The maps of the world were necessary to the Exploration S which carried out the Portuguese around Africa (as of 1415, first North Africa establishment), then Castilians. The monk Camaldule FRA Mauro carried out a map of the world representing the Old world in 1459, which he addressed to Henri the Navigator, at the request of the king Alphonse V of Portugal.
