Planfoy

Planfoy is a common French, located in the department of the the Loire and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

The commune of Planfoy located at the south of Saint-Etienne, in the Regional natural park of Pilat.

One reaches the borough, nested on the slopes of the collar of the Republic, by borrowing the RD1082 on 6 kilometers from Saint-Etienne and 20 kilometers since Borough-Argental.

History

Planfoy becomes a commune with whole share on May 23rd, 1863. It, before, was attached to the Large-Church of Saint-Etienne until 1822, then a simple parish.

The name of common has several possible origins. Étymologiquement, Planfoy means " the plate of the fées". But the name would come rather from the plantation of beeches, name given to the beech in the area. It is necessary noted that the beech is also called " tree with fées".

In addition to the agricultural production, the workshops of passementerie made the beautiful days of the commune. Unfortunately, there remain only very little in activity about it today.

The Guizay offers a splendid point of view on Saint-Etienne, in the axis of Main street.

Stopping of the Step of Riot, and its reserve of water formerly intended to feed Saint-Etienne, promise the beautiful ones stroll.

The Via ferrata is made for the amateurs of excursions in matters sporting, even athletic. It is located vis-a-vis the wall of the stopping of the Gouffre of Hell, one reaches it by paths marked out, either since Planfoy, or since Rochetaillée. It is a compromise between the excursion walk and the climbing.

The writer Charles Exbrayat lived in Planfoy as from the years 1960 and until his death.
