Plane universe

Note: the words between brackets indicate the term in Baronh.

The universe plan ( fadh ) is a fictitious place created by Hiroyuki Morioka for the series of Seikai ( Crest off the Stars , Banner off the Stars , Seikai No danshō ) and which allows the spaceships to travel more quickly than the light.

Basic principles

As its name indicates it, the plane universe is composed of two space dimensions and a temporal dimension. This universe exists at side and independently of the normal universe ( dadh ). To penetrate there, it is necessary to pass through a gate ( saudec ).

In this universe, the objects in three dimensions cannot exist. The voyage through the plane universe supposes to create around the vessel a space-time bubble ( flasath ). If energy necessary has suddenly missed whereas the vessel is in the plane universe, the space-time bubble disappears and the apparatus is destroyed.

When two space-time bubbles approach, there is space-time fusion ( gor ptarhoth ), and the two vessels coexist in the same bubble; contrary, there is space-time separation ( gor rytcosec ) when two vessels move away.

The communication between two space-time bubbles ( drauch flactaider ) is possible, but on short distances. The main part of the communications rests on the sending of vessels of communication ( pairrïac ).

In the plane universe, a space-time bubble is presented in the form of a particle in rotation. When its axis of rotation is perpendicular to the plane universe, it is in stationary state ( scobrtamh ) and does not move. When the axis of rotation is parallel to the plane universe, it is in mobile state ( noctamh ) and moves. The rate of travel is inversely proportional to the mass of the vessel: an encumbered remains bubble sees its slowed down speed. A vessel travelling in the plane universe varies its speed while passing from one state to another. The energy expense thus does not depend speed, but on the simple presence in the plane universe: to remain motionless expenditure of energy as much than the movement.

The combat in the plane universe is possible in two forms. First is to send to the adversary space mines able to form a space-time bubble. It is generally the first stage of engagement.

The direct combat between vessels is not possible that when it there fusion of the space-time bubbles. The skill of a captain is measured with his capacity to carry out fusion or separation with the enemy space-time bubbles at the time tactiquement convenient: it is what makes it possible hecto-ordering the Laicch to fight to 1 against 10 and to destroy 9 of its adversaries at the time of the ambush set-up to the Gothlauth .

Gate

The communication enters the plane universe and the normal universe is done via gates ( saudec ). In the normal universe, these gates are presented in two forms.

An open gate resembles a luminous sphere. It has a Demi-vie 12 years. For lack of energy, a gate can be closed again. It is appeared as a particle to very strong energy ( saudec lœza , closed gate, in Baronh). These particles, called yuanon , were used like energy source for the first space flights. By adding energy to the yuanon , it is possible to reopen the gate. It is what arrives when the vessel Leif Ericsson explodes in orbit of Martin: the contribution in energy transforms the yuanon used to propel the vessel of emigration in gate (the saudec Haïder for the Abh) connecting the system of Hyde to the plane universe.

It is impossible to know by advance the exit point on other side of the gate. Two space-time bubbles crossing a gate side-by-side or one behind the other can be found in directions opposite once on other side.

The position of a gate in the normal universe is without relationship with that which it occupies in the plane universe. Two very distant gates in the normal universe can be very close in the plane universe. The system of Hyde is found in the middle of the human Empire of Abh, from where its annexation, whereas it was isolated from the other stellar nations to the opening of the gate. The possibility of moving the gate in its closed form can create surprises. It is what is at the origin of the opening of a second gate in the system of Basscotton: the human Union recovered a gate closed located at 4 light-years of Basscotton to install it in this system, which enables him, after opening, to be near the gate of Sfagnaumh, in the middle of the human Empire of Abh.

Importance of gates in voyage space in fact of points strategic, which explains why the main part of the battles proceed close to them, generally in the plane universe: to see the battle of the gate of Sfagnaumh ( Crest off the Stars ) or the battle of the gate of Apticec ( Banner off the Stars I ).

A Planetary system can have several saudec , which enables him to be related to point sometimes very distant in the plane universe. The county of Ablïarsec, sits of the capital of the human Empire of Abh, Lacmhacarh, is the only one to have eight saudec , each one related to one of the eight kingdoms of the Empire; they bear the name of the known as kingdom.

Structure of the plane universe

The Milky Way ( Érucfac ) account approximately 30 billion saudec . In the plane universe, the saudec are organized out of rings ( sepéch ) concentric surrounding a central cluster in which navigation is impossible because of the too strong density of the space-time particles ( spuflasath ). Each ring has the same number of saudec so that, more one moves away from the center, more the saudec are distant from/to each other.

The first seven rings constitute the central sector ( ssorh bandacr ). The space ranging between eighth and eleventh rings is described as unknown sector ( ssorh géraza ), but it is not any more that one traditional name because it is occupied by the various stellar nations.

The twelfth ring ( sepéch lomata ) occupies a particular position. It seems isolated from the different one: only the gate of Ilich ( saudec Ilicr ) makes it possible to reach it. Consequently, the human Empire of Abh control all the saudec of this ring, where is the kingdom of Ilich ( faicec Ilicr ), called arm of Abh ( Bar saidac ) because it encloses all the group of gates of the Milky Way ( saudlach Érucfar ).

The control of this twelfth ring is an important strategic issue, because, on the edge of this one is an unusual cluster of saudec which, thinks one, leads to another galaxy. The human Empire of Abh intends to preserve its control on the twelfth of ring to be the only one to reach this possible news galaxy. The members of the Organization of the Treaty of Novasicilia do not want to let themselves block and seek a saudec which would lead beyond the twelfth ring. Their attempts remaining vain, confrontation with the human Empire of Abh for the control of the kingdom of Ilich seems inevitable.
