Plane tree of the East
The plane tree of the East is a species of Arbre of the family of the Platanacée S used like ornamental tree. This species in the past introduced in Western Europe was supplanted by the common Platane.
Description
The plane tree of the East is a large tree, approximately 30 m in height, with broad and irregular houppier. The bark brown rosâtre is very smooth and is surbedded by large round plates leaving of the yellowish spots.The sheets null and void, alternate, with webbed nervation, are deeply cut out and count five acute lobes separated by major sines.
The flowers, unisexuées, without Perianth, are joined together in hanging globulous kittens, and gathering of the same flowers sex.
The fruits are small Akène S grouped of balls or Glomérules 3 cm in diameter.
Distribution
this species is originating in the Eastern basin of the Mediterranean: Turkey, Cyprus Greece, Albania, ex- Yugoslavia, Italy…
Use
The plane tree of the East is used as ornamental tree, but is not very widespread.Its wood is usable in joinery.
Its buds are used in Gemmothérapie, medicine nonconventional.
