The Plan of Iguala - the Plane of Iguala , also known as Plane of the Three Guarantees ( Plane Trigarante ) - is proclaimed the February 24th 1821 at the time of the last stage of the Guerre of independence of Mexico. The plan tries to establish the bases of a Constitution for an independent Mexican Empire. It draws its name from the town of Iguala (currently located in the Mexican state of Guerrero).

The Plan of Iguala had three goals: establishment of a national Religion, roman catholic; proclamation of the independence of Mexico; and social equality of all the ethnicities of the country. These goals were summarized by the currency " Unit, Religion and Indépendance" ( " Unión, Religión there Independencia" ).

Mexico would become a Constitutional monarchy, on the model of European monarchies of the time. the Plan also claimed the equality of all the inhabitants of Mexico, guaranteeing equal rights to them in front of justice and for all the other aspects of the everyday life.

The two main characters behind this Plan were Agustín de Iturbide (which would become Empereur of Mexico) and Vicente Guerrero, risen, and later President of Mexico. The army of the Three Guarantees was born to defend the ideals of the Plan of Iguala, it consisted of the union of the military forces of the two men. The August 24th 1821, Iturbide and the Spanish Vice-roi Juan O' Donojú signed the Traité of Córdaba which ratified the Plan of Iguala and confirmed the independence of Mexico.

Consequences

The the Cortes of Spain joined together with Madrid the February 13rd 1822 declared the Traité of Córdaba " illegal, no one and nonwhich occurred, from the point of view of the government espagnol". However for the Spanish government, following the agreement signed by O' Donojú, the country was indeed independent. This will force Spain to try to reconquer its colony without success at the time of the years which followed.

After the fall of the Mexican Empire, the congress of the country repudiated the Plan and the Traité of Córdaba as a base of government the April 8th 1823. A new constitutional convention was claimed and led to the adoption of the Constitution of Mexico of the October 4th 1824.
